Rise To Power
Introduction
In Rise To Power, the Student Center Network's game of military strategy, you are fighting to dominate the world. To win, you must launch bold attacks, defend all of your cities, and cunningly sweep acoss large continents. The object of the game is to rule all of the territories and eliminate all of your enemies. Remember that the dangers are just as high as the rewards. At any time, and enemy may come through and destroy your armies!

Strategies
There are many strategies involved when playing Rise To Power. You can discuss strategies in the
Rise To Power Forum. However, as you play, remember these three basic strategies of the game:
  1. Try to take over entire territories: you will earn more armies at each reinforcement that way.
  2. Watch your enemies. If they are building up large forces near your borders, expect an attack soon!
  3. Fortify your borders well. This will provide the best defense against your enemies.
  4. Do not spread your armies too thin. While expansion is the object of the game, you do not want to expand too quickly. Spreading your armies too thin makes it easier for your enemies to steal your cities.

Game Board
The Rise To Power Game Board consists of 24 territories on twelve continents divided into 1,121 cities. Each territory contains between 14 and 99 countries. Please go to the
maps section to view all of the different territories and cities or the info section to see their specific details.

Registering
When you first begin to play Rise To Power, you must have a Student Center login name. If you have already signed up with the Student Center, you may register on Rise To Power. Registration is simple: all you must do is provide a valid e-mail address, decide whether or not you want a Rise To Power Reminder, and choose a color for your armies. Rise To Power will never email you unless you specify that you wish to recieve a reminder.

Intial Placement of Armies
When you first enter the Rise To Power game, you will be presented with 10 inactive armies. At that point, you will be faced with one of two possibilities. If there are still unoccupied cities on the world map, you can occupy them with your inactive armies to begin you quest for world domination. However, if there are no empty cities left, you will have to incite a revolution in a port city to gain a position on the world map. There are currently 48 port countries on the map.

Port Cities
To ensure that no one player over-fortifies the port cities in order to keep more players from joining, the port cities will rotate once every two hours. On average there will be fifty port cities, however, they are likely to change to any given time. Make sure you guard all of your territories well, for you may find that a port city is right in the middle of your fortifications! A new player could come in at any time and conquer large regions of your nation despite your cunning defensive strategy.

Playing Rise To Power
Once you are in control of at least one city on the world map, you can begin your quest for world domination. There are four basic actions that occur in basic gameplay:
  • Add Armies: If you have inactive armies, you can place them on the world map. These armies can either be used to fortify cities that you already own or to occupy empty cities. Acquiring inactive armies is explained in the next section.
  • Attack: You can attack an enemy's city from an adjacent city that you own. Attacking will be explained in a later section.
  • Move: You can move armies from one of your cities to another. To be able to do this, the cities must be touching. Also, youy cannot abandon a city; you must always have at least one army on each city you own.
  • Occupy: You can occupy an empty city with armies from a touching city that you own. Again, you cannot abandon a city that you own so you must always have at least one army in each nation.
If you are attacked, your armies will automatically defend their city no matter what the cost.

Reinforcement
Every five minutes, you will be given inactive armies to place on the map. You will receive at least five armies but it is possible to gain more. You will recieve an extra inactive army for every four cities that you own. Also, you will recieve a set number of armies if you control an entire territory when reinforcement occurs. The number of armies depends on the size of the territory. The numbers can be viewed on the
Territory Info page. Make sure you place your armies before the next reinforcement occurs or you will lose those inactive armies.

Rise To Power Cards
Rise To Power Cards are another opportunity to gain extra inactive armies. Every time you defeat ten cities, you will recieve one Rise To Power Card. Collect these cards until you can trade in a set. A set consists of three cards that either all have the same colored Smiley on them or have three different colored Smileys on them. You will recieve more and more armies every time you trade in. Also, if you trade in a card which has the picture of city that you control on it, ten extra armies will be placed in that city automatically. Manage your cards
here. When you trade in, you will recieve extra inactive armies that you must place on the world map before the next reinforcement occurs. If you trade in cards but do not place the armies, you will lose them at the next reinforcement.

Attacking
The object of an attack is to take over an enemy's city by defeating all of the opposing armies already on it. If you decide to attack, you must follow these rules:
  • You may only attack a nation that is adjacent to your nation or connected through a water passage. Once you click on a city to attack from, you will be shown all of the nations that you can attack.
  • You must have at least two armies in the city that you are attacking from.
  • You may continue attacking a city until you have eliminated all the armies on it and taken it over or you may decide to stop attacking at any point in time.
To attack, you must chose which city to attack from the
attack page and which city you are attacking. Next you must decide how many armies you are attacking with. You must attack with anywhere between one army and total armies on your city minus one. The number of attacking armies determines how many armies will move into your enemies nation if you defeat it and how many dice you will get to roll. If you atttack with one army, you can roll one die, two armies roll two dice, and three or more armies roll three dice. The more dice you roll, the greater your chance of winning but also, the greater number of armies you can lose and the greater number of armies you must move. The defender will be allowed to roll one die if they have one army of the city and two dice for two or more armies. To decide a battle, the highest dice are compared in order. If the attacker's die is higher, then the defender loses an army. If the defender's die is higher. the attacker loses an army from the attacking nation. In case of a tie, the defender always wins.

Quick Attack
The Quick Attack option will become available for battles involving more than ten attackers. Quick Attack simulates large battles in order to speed up large invasions. Quick Attack will keep attacking until either you have completely annihilated your enemy or vice-versa. Be sure that you want to commit to a large battle before choosing Quick Attack.

Winning
A winner will be declared once he or she has control over the entire world.

Reset
If a player has not totally conquered the world by the end of the week, the game will be reset. The reset occurs early in the morning every Monday. When the game is reset, the current winner's stats are stored and entered into the hall of fame. A timer is kept on the top of every page of Rise To Power showing how long there is until the game resets.

Inactivity
To keep Rise To Power always fun and interesting, we cannot allow players to build up large armies, place them on ports and borders, and then stop playing. In order to prevent this, you will lose ten percent of your armies every hour you are idle. Being active involves attacking, occupying, moving, trading in cards, or even just viewing your armies. Don't worry about losing your cities, though. If a city only has one army on it, it will not be removed.
